1, 2 Shawne is coming for you…3, 4 He’ll slam you to the floor…5, 6 Oh no! Lights Out. Hit the switch!

It’s the tune the QBs hum to themselves, if they like it or not. Sing it the same way they used to sing the song to Freddy Krueger. But will that song be forgotten this year? It’s an absolute possibility. With a torn posterior cruciate ligament, and a tear in his lateral collateral ligament…let’s just say it like it is. His knee is all jacked up.

Surgery? It’s not looking good. We can’t seriously ask the man to just play through it. That could jeopardize his career. There isn’t any reason to doubt his desire to play. Why would anyone in his position give up the chance to be part of something great. So to question it, that’s a waste of time. What it comes down to is, “What is best for Shawne Merriman (as a person, not the football player)?” Business or not, everyone really needs to respect the decision he ultimately makes.

Shawne, The Ownership, The Coaches, The Team, and the Fans all have to consider that there is a time where the Chargers might not have #56 in the lineup. It’s reality, and it’s going to have to be dealt with. It’s happened before when he got suspended for 4 games. Remember what happened? 4-0. Not only that, two of those games were THE 2 comeback games. Yes it’s going to bum us out that he may not be playing. But we need to just get over it. And someone is going to have to fill in and handle their business. This isn’t just filling in just any spot. This is a spot on a bonified contender. I’m looking forward for “The Other Guy” to make some things happen. I feel that Shawn Phillips will have a breakthrough season. A nice new contract, and much more experience under his belt are nothing but good things for everyone involved, except for the opponents. With the stability of having a big deal done, it opens the doors for football. No real money worries. His only thing to do, is football. oh, to be a professional athlete. People outside San Diego are still sleeping on Phillips, this is his chance to wake their asses up.

Whether it’s Merriman, or someone else stepping up…all I know is, it’s Tampa of bust. No matter who is in there.
