The Chargers lead the all series over the Colts, 13-9.
The last time the teams faced off was on December 18, 2005. A game that featured the AFC’s top 2 scoring teams. The Chargers got off to a fast start lighting up the scoreboard first. The Chargers lead at halftime 13-0. Just as in the first half, the Chargers got on the board first in the second half and extended their lead to 16-0. However, the Colts came storming back, and took the lead 17-16. Surprisingly, it was the Colts defense that go them back in the game. A couple timely turnovers got them right back into the swing of things. But the lead for Indy was short lived, once the Chargers took the lead, it was theirs for good. The Chargers were lead on defense by a rookie by the name of Shawne Merriman. A game that put America on notice, that the Chargers had something special. Other than the goal line tackle “Lights Out!” made on Peyton Manning…the play that stands out most, is a play in which Merriman drove a Colts offensive lineman all the way through the backfield, right up to Manning, and with one arm took out the QB. The Charger offense was lead by the leg of Nate Kaeding and his 4 field goals (36,20,48,49) and Michael Turner’s 8 rushes for 113 yards; most notable was his 83-yard scamper down the sideline with 2:09 remaining in the game, to end the Colts’ chances at perfection.
